Branching out in other directions

The process of my Paper Resin jewelry line drove me to be interested in printing the designs I slaved so hard over in larger formats. While I love the size and look of my jewelry there is a lot that goes into those little pendants. I thought it would be good to enlarge those same designs and make cards. These cards are my first set of Winter Cards. My hope was to have a little something sweet for the Holidays that anyone could use, with out being generic. I think I got there...

Available in Singles for $3, Packs of 8 for $12. You can message me to purchase, or you can stop in at Knows Perfume in the West Seattle Junction.

I'd also gladly personalize these designs, or create one just for you, for a small fee.

Mothers Day for a Special Mama

A good Friend of mine is in a place where no new parent wants to be - Children's Hospital. She's there with her Newborn Baby to make matters even more unimaginable. The newest person to make her way into our world, had a bit of an early struggle. She's been under the amazing care and supervision of the staff at Children's since birth and for that we are thankful.

You can probably understand my joy when the Father of the baby called to ask for something special for the Mama. I've felt like a helpless bystander - and now I had something that I could do to bring a small amount of joy to these two parents.

I hope they enjoy their Family Jewels.

Courtney & Bruce's Wedding day

I don't usually get to participate in the weddings that I make jewelry for, so it was a special day when I got an invitation in the mail for Courtney and Bruce's wedding. What a treat to see those two love birds walk down the aisle! They are so incredibly in love and it was oozing from every ounce of their bodies. The Maids looked lovely in their jewels!

Courtney and Bruce are to be married this coming weekend. April 3rd.

I had the fortune of meeting this amazing couple through my Father before he passed away almost a year ago. It's interesting how you go about your whole life seeing your parents as just parents. You rarely see the person they are through the eyes of their friends. It was at the Memorial service for my father where I really understood what my father meant to other people. He was a grand figure in my life - but I truly did not know his capacity as a friend to others until that day. I was incredibly lucky to have a rare form of closure during my Fathers Memorial Service where I saw the many other shining facets of my Fathers depths - through the words and memories of his friends. Bruce and Courtney knew my Father as a Friend and a Mentor. After the service Bruce was able to sum up my awe. He said, "I bet you never knew how many siblings you have." What a special thing to have some one say to you. He not only drew strength, knowledge, and enjoyment from my Dad he saw him as a Father figure. I never knew.

I know that my Dad has had his hands in many things since his passing, including bringing Courtney and Bruce to me so that I could create special mementos for their closest friends. Lucky me!

I am spilling over with joy over being a Guest at the wedding this weekend. So looking forward to seeing these special people share their vows! And also looking forward to seeing my Dad 'amongst' his friends.

Courtney has a very unique grouping of jewelry. Each one of her Bridesmaids is very different, and so they each have a very different piece to wear to the wedding. I can't tell you how fun this was to create, create, and create. It was nonstop creativity on one project and I had a blast.

I hope the Maids and Courtney love them. I'll report back after the wedding!

I'm always the one photographing all of my jewelry, so it's pretty hard to take a pic of a squirmy 15 month and my self and my husband.

Andrew & Teddy

Theadora (Teddy) came up to me in my booth at the Seattle Wedding Show and asked if I would ever consider making copper rings. I said "Why not?" She told me an amazing story of Andrews Grandfather who was about to ship off to war and wanted to propose to his love before he left. He went to the only jeweler in town to purchase an engagement ring for her. This jeweler only made rings from Platinum and Copper. Not having enough money to purchase a Platinum ring, he purchased and proposed with a Copper ring. Andrew and Teddy wanted to honor this amazing love story with Copper wedding bands.

Congratulations you two! May your love be as strong and unique as the love of your grandparents.

Karyn & Geoff were married on August 14th, in Cape Cod. Their wedding invitations had these beautiful little silver starfish on them that set the tone for the beachy wedding they would have in Cape Cod. The dresses were a lovely periwinkle blue and we created a paisley design match the pattern in the brides delicious paisley shoes. I wish I had a picture of the shoes to show you! They were great! She decided after seeing the pendants that her mother would love to have one as well. We made a simpler version for her (shown below).

Congratulations Karyn & Geoff! Hope your day was heavenly and that the honeymoon lasts through the years to come.

This is the complete set made for Camille's wedding party. She gave them to her maids as Thank you gifts. They wore them on the wedding day as they matched the dresses. Simplistic and easy and lovely. They can easily be worn again... the best way to say thank you!

Scott & Laura's Wedding Bands

This was a unique job for me. Scott and Laura are good friends of my husband and I. They are both Artists them selves - Architects to be exact - and were interested in having me make their wedding bands. They had a diamond they wanted to use and were wanting white gold or platinum. I wanted so bad to work with them, but knew that I did not have the skills to set the diamond or to cast the rings. I offered to design the rings and then we would have them made by another jeweler. I suggested a few places I knew of for Laura to take my design. She chose Goldmine Jewelry, in Pike Place market. They are great! They offer the Bride and Groom the opportunity to cast their own rings! How cool is that?! I attended the ring casting with them and was very impressed with what they ended up with!

The finished rings. Laura's is White Gold and Titanium and Scotts is Titanium.

Both rings are 'square-ish'. Laura's includes a very cool Titanium wedding band that inserts into the engagement band.

Gina wanted some cufflinks for her life long love. Just to prove what I mean by life long... check out how little the two kids are in this wagon.... That's Gina and Jordan!! The photo was an old photo copy from a news paper. I edited the photo to make wagon to reflect the original red color.

Here is an amazing photo of Luna wearing her earrings. Luna and Sergio were married on the beach in Hawaii. The ceremony was casual, beach-y and private. While pearls are considered quite traditional, these are so natural and organic that they really compliment the feeling of a beach wedding.

Yes, it says my daughters name, think of it as the new version of the birthstone jewels. Instead of the colored stones, you get the beautiful name you took so long to decide on!

Luna and Sergio work at C&P coffee in West Seattle, and they'll be married in Hawaii in a few weeks. I've loved this quaint coffee shop on California Ave for quite some time, but over the last few months I have adored it and spent many an hour in the back yard sipping iced lattes, reading, hanging out with Luka (my 2 month daughter) and making jewelry. As I was making the jewelry for Danielle (see last post) Luna asked about a pair for her up coming wedding in Hawaii. Here's what I created for her. They are very similar to the ones I made for Danielle, except they are just a smidge shorter, about 2".

Danielle and Frank were married August 15th, 2008. Her wedding went from a fairly casual to an all out classic gorgeous wedding.... with a little more "fancy" than originally thought. Her jewelry shows that transformation. Originally we were going to make some initial pendants for the girls to wear, then as things evolved it didn't quite fit with the feeling or match their dresses. In the end we decided on pearls, stones and crystals. They are SO lovely!

Check out this new set of Gems! Mary and her fiancee Mark are getting married this weekend... April 26th! Mark is a graphic designer. He created a logo for their wedding and we incorporated it into some jewels for Mary, her maid of honor, her sister and sister-in-law AND Mark. I hope they love these as much as I do.

I've got to get to work making some of these for ME!

Wedding show a SUCCESS!

Hey Friends- I have not posted since October? Crazy! I've been a busy bee lately. The wedding show went off last weekend without a hitch. We had a blast and everyone seemed to love the new line of work. Here's some photos of the booth and a few of the jewels we had on display. I can't say thank you enough to those that helped. Leah, Erin, Rachelle, Amy, Lea, and Dan, you are the best! This NEVER would have happened with out you. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, and I love you.
I've posted some of the samples on my etsy account (www.rebekahj.etsy.com) if any of you are interested in purchasing any of the lovley jewels that we had at the show. The samples are for sale at a discounted rate of $45!! This sample to the left is called "Love Birds". Over the last few months I've grown interested in collaborating with other artists and using their art within my work. The "Love Birds" is made using art crafted by Chelsea Sevorg, the "Birdnerd" as she's called on Etsy. She hails from the San Francisco area... and I've gone gaga over her small bird portraits made from assorted papers. Some of them even made using vintage wall paper! ya!
I've also started a collection of lovely little necklaces that are reminiscent of the pieces I made for my own bridesmaids. The circles are all hand fabricated and soldered together in small clusters. Each one is then embellished with little gems. This one has a variety of black and blue stones. The stones are and tied, and then attached to the chain. Everyone of these necklaces is one of a kind and will only set you back $100!

RJD gets and ETSY account!

So I have been a crazy blogger lately and have been loving quite a few blogs! http://www.decor8.blogspot.com/ is my most favorite place to looks for new and exciting stuff. Holly has a great sense of design, sometimes I feel like she's in my head... loving the same stuff I love. She has been a great help for me as I tried to locate some items I saw on my European travels. Her great, loyal internet hunters found just the item I was looking for... now if only I could afford the shipping!

So in all my blogging I felt that I was not completely part of the crowd, until now no one was able to purchase any of my goods online.... well...drum roll please.... now you can! I will slowly be adding my jewels on there as I can photograph them and think of something cute to say.

Yay!

In other news I am feverishly working on the booth for the Seattle Wedding Show.
There is only about 2 months to go! AHHH! But as of this last week I feel much better about my progress. I hope to be building the framework tomorrow. I hope to post some pictures in the next few days.

Launch Party was a SUCCESS!

The celebration for the launch of the web site was a hit! Everyone had a great time. DJ W3... played fabulously and set the mood. The Bartender, Rachelle, was serving up the drinks and on top of the whole night like a champ. All the while with a purty smile on her face. The rest of the staff also helped tremendously. Peter and crew... thanks!

The jewelry was loved, and the buttons were a great idea, thanks Gordon and Dana for your ideas. Also thanks to Dan, My husband for getting me through the last month. Your patience and your ideas really allowed this night to happen. I love you. Amy, Erin, Leah, Rachelle, Dana and Nicole.. you guys are troopers! These kids came over any night they could to help me with last minute details, I never would have been able to make it if it weren't for my fab. staff. Erin, Leah, Rachelle and Amy manned the tables and kept accurate track of the jewelry sales, and were awesome sales women. You guys are the best! I never got a head count but the mezzanine was packed for the majority of the night. Thanks to everyone for coming down, making some purchases, and for all the wearing of my jewels that you will do in the future! I need you guys to get my name out there!

Here is one of the new commissions I have recently finished. This is for a 40th birthday gift. The recipient and the commissioner have been friends since the were children. One side shows a photo of the two of them when they were in the 3rd grade. The opposite side is printed with the recipients favorite color, lime green.
